Message from Mayor Ben Garlich, May 2024

May 28, 2024

Hello Residents,

Yesterday was Memorial Day and in my years as mayor we never have been concerned about the threat of rain until yesterday. I spoke with Commander Gardner on Friday and wanted his input on the event if we were to have the wash out day they were predicting. His response was my guys fought in the rain and this event would be held regardless, and we would make the best possible. As it turned out the rain stopped prior and resumed a little after our ceremony to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. It turned out to be a very emotional day for me as the patriotism displayed was moving. The presentations by the VFW and Mrs. Robinson were so appropriate. I was thrilled by the all-encompassing participation comprised of Cardinal High School Band, local youth sports teams and local residents young and old. I was thrilled to see the decorated bikes and vehicles proudly paying tribute to our great country. Yesterday spoke volumes to me regarding the patriotic fiber of our community. The message of the importance of freedom, how it has been achieved and what it takes to preserve must be conveyed from generation to generation.

I pray we never become complacent as a nation and continue to be a nation where we have the freedoms not enjoyed by many around the world. I want to express my sincere appreciation to all who attended, honoring the many that gave the ultimate for our freedom. God Bless America and the brave people that help preserve our freedom today.

Ben Garlich
